Greenbrier Parole and Probation Differences

Parole follows a prison sentence. The West Virginia Parole Board decides whether an eligible state inmate may leave custody under conditions, and WVDCR Parole Services performs field supervision. Probation comes from a court. Greenbrier County Adult Probation, part of the West Virginia Judiciary, supervises adults whom a judge places on probation. A person may begin probation without serving a state prison term. Both people may live in the community, but their legal authority and records are not the same.

Release is not discharge. A person released on parole remains subject to the sentence and parole conditions. A probationer remains subject to the sentencing court's order. Discharge means the proper authority has formally ended supervision. It cannot be inferred from a missing jail result or a period without contact.

Note: Anthony Correctional Center participants return to the committing court and probation after successful completion, rather than entering parole.

Verify Greenbrier Post-Release Supervision

Start with the release path, not a broad name search. Southern Regional Jail serves Greenbrier County, but a person who leaves its roster might have entered state prison, transferred to another custodian, or entered the community. The full Greenbrier County released-inmate search path helps establish that custody event before a supervision check begins.

1. Identify the order. Read the Greenbrier Circuit or Magistrate record for a sentence, probation order, or release authority. A court order is the durable source for ordinary probation.
2. Check state corrections. Use the WVDCR offender-search hub, then choose Offender Search (Prisons). The system covers active prison and parole supervision, not ordinary county probation.
3. Match carefully. Search with at least four starting OID digits, or at least three letters of both first and last name. Compare the identifiers and status shown.
4. Call the right local office. Contact the Lewisburg Parole Office for a parole reporting-office question. Contact Greenbrier Adult Probation when the court imposed probation.
5. Confirm the end status. Ask for a discharge record or final court order. A no-result, missed report, or roster disappearance does not prove lawful completion.

The WVDCR search is built around people still in prison, on parole, or otherwise under active state supervision. A fully discharged former offender may no longer appear. Ordinary Greenbrier probationers also have no verified public name-search portal. Those limits make the court file and direct office response essential fallbacks.

Greenbrier Parole Hearing Outcomes

A parole eligibility date, or PED, means the inmate may be considered. It is not a release promise. Under West Virginia Code §62-12-13, the usual baseline depends on the minimum indeterminate term or part of a definite term, along with conduct, planning, safety, programming, and any offense-specific rule. Section 62-12-13a makes clear that eligibility confers consideration, not a right to leave.

The Board publishes a rolling monthly calendar by facility. It is not a permanent person-level decision database. Regional-jail hearings occur by video. For one person, call the Board with the name, OID, facility, PED, and hearing month. Its result terms matter:

Denial

The person remains incarcerated and receives a stated reinterview period.

Set-up

The Board schedules another hearing in one to eleven months.

Grant

Release is conditional and follows only after all stated requirements and processing are met.

Discharge

The lawful end of parole supervision, distinct from release through the prison gate.

A Southern Regional Jail grant does not cause an instant exit. The Board advises that a regional-jail parole grant requires transfer for WVDCR intake and fingerprint processing, with about seven to ten days anticipated before actual release. Anthony Correctional Center is different. Board materials state that its young-adult commitment is not parole eligible and the facility holds no parole hearings.

Greenbrier Supervision Contacts

Use the office tied to the order. The Lewisburg field office serves Greenbrier and nearby counties in WVDCR's Southern District, Region 3. County probation is housed with the court system in Lewisburg. The Board handles hearing schedules and person-specific outcome questions, subject to limits on what may be disclosed.

A Board hearing recording may be available to the inmate, parolee, or representative for the posted charge, while a transcript requires a court order. Ask the Board about the current procedure and timing. Do not treat the rolling calendar as a final outcome record.

Note: Give an office the person's full name, OID when known, court, facility, and relevant supervision date to narrow the inquiry.

Greenbrier Absconder and Violation Status

An absconder is a supervised person alleged to have stopped reporting or otherwise made their whereabouts unknown. WVDCR maintains an Escapees and Absconders search that can display an OID, name, and photograph. It is an exception list, not a full supervision roster. An entry does not show that parole has ended, and the absence of an entry does not establish good standing.

West Virginia Code §62-12-19 authorizes parole-violation warrants and addresses sentence time during absconding. Yet an alleged violation is not the same as a final revocation. Revocation has its own preliminary and evidentiary procedures. Check current warrant and supervision status with the Lewisburg Parole Office or the responsible law-enforcement agency, then confirm any later Board action.

Greenbrier Supervision Notice Channels

Supervision conditions come from the release or court order. They can address reporting, travel, treatment, contact, and other case-specific conduct. A public search does not show every condition. The Lewisburg Parole Office can route parole questions, while Greenbrier Adult Probation handles terms imposed by a county court. When an alleged breach arises, use the warrant, violation filing, hearing record, and final order rather than rumor or a single status label.

West Virginia VINE offers a different service. It reports WVDCR custody information and can send status-change notices by phone or email, with other delivery methods offered by the current system. Call 1-866-984-8463 or use VINELink for a matched person. An alert may help confirm movement or release, but it does not replace a parole-discharge record, probation order, or violation decision. WVDCR also says transfer calls occur after arrival at the new facility, not while movement is in progress.

Formal statutory notice is separate. Under West Virginia Code §62-12-23, a qualifying request for release or parole-hearing notice must be made in writing to both WVDCR and the Parole Board because they are separate bodies. A written request to WVDCR also registers the requester in VINE. A VINELink account alone does not create every Board-notice right.

The West Virginia State Police registry is another distinct system. It covers people who have a sex-offender registration duty, not all parolees or probationers. A listing does not mean the person is in custody, and no listing does not prove release or discharge.

Greenbrier Day Report Supervision

The Greenbrier Day Report Center is a distinct local layer of community supervision. Staff coordinate with probation, drug court, home incarceration, community service, and pretrial programs. The center is at 267 Dawkins Drive and can be reached at 304-647-1389. Its role helps explain why a person may report to a local program even though no parole result appears in the WVDCR search.

The center is not a jail. Attendance there does not prove a person completed custody, parole, or probation. It also does not replace the sentencing order. Verify the legal basis through the Greenbrier court file and the agency named in that order, then use the center for the program details it administers.

IDs After Greenbrier County Release

WVDCR release policy requires a facility to return identifying documents it held. The listed examples include a driver license, birth certificate, Social Security card, and temporary DCR identification. This return step matters when someone must report to the Lewisburg Parole Office, Adult Probation, Day Report Center, or another part of a release plan.

If a document still needs replacement, the West Virginia DMV calls for proof of identity, a Social Security number, two proofs of West Virginia residency, and a name-change chain when it applies. The permanent credential is mailed. A temporary receipt remains valid for 60 days. Ask the releasing facility to document what was returned before starting a replacement request.

Note: Property return and document replacement support a release plan, but neither one proves that parole or probation has ended.

Greenbrier Parole and Probation Discharge

Parole ends only through lawful discharge. West Virginia Code §62-12-18 governs the parole period and possible early discharge after minimum supervision periods. Time spent in the community does not make discharge automatic. Request the formal discharge record when the end date matters.

Probation completion rests with the sentencing court. Review the final Greenbrier order and confirm it with Adult Probation. For either system, keep three dates separate: release from physical custody, the period spent under community supervision, and the final discharge date.
