Southern Regional Release Routes
Southern Regional Jail and Correctional Facility is Greenbrier County's main regional-jail custodian. The West Virginia Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation operates it at 1200 Airport Road in Beaver. WVDCR says the facility serves Fayette, Greenbrier, Mercer, Monroe, Raleigh, Summers, and Wyoming counties. A Greenbrier deputy may make the arrest and transport the person, but that does not make the Sheriff the holder of the jail booking and release file.
A direct community release may follow bond, personal recognizance, dismissal, acquittal, credit for time served, completion of a jail term, probation, home incarceration, or another court order. Supervision may still follow. A sentenced transfer to a WVDCR prison is different. The person has left the regional-jail setting but remains in state custody. Transfers to another county, federal authority, ICE, a hospital under guard, or another secure facility also are not community releases.

Confirm Southern Regional Releases
The public WVDCR jail offender search is a current-custody lead. Its disclaimer warns that information may not reflect the true location, release date, or status. A name that no longer appears does not prove a community release. The final Southern Regional release record must identify the event.
- Search the person's full name and spelling variants in WVDCR Jails. Record the OID, facility, booking information, and search time.
- Check West Virginia VINE for the same person and reporting agency. Treat the status change as an alert, not a certified archive.
- Search Greenbrier Magistrate and Circuit records for the order that authorized bond, dismissal, sentence, probation, time served, or transfer.
- If sentencing or reclassification is possible, use WVDCR Prisons. A match there indicates continued state custody.
- Request the final Southern Regional booking and release entry from WVDCR, including date, time, type, authority, and destination.
Names alone are not enough. Compare date of birth or age, OID, booking number, case number, arrest date, charge, and agency. A strong result states only what the records establish. For example, WVDCR may report that the person left Southern Regional under a named release type while the court file supplies the matching order. That does not prove the end of parole, probation, or an unrelated case.

WVDCR is the principal custodian for the operational jail record. Ask for the booking and release summary, actual exit date and time, release type, releasing authority, destination or receiving custodian, and any releasable release checklist or booking photograph. West Virginia Code §29B-1-3 requires a response as soon as practical and within no more than five days, excluding weekends and legal holidays, through production, an inspection time, or a written denial. That is a response deadline, not a promise that every large request is produced in five days. WVDCR Policy 142.00 lists paper copies at $0.15 per page plus postage. No official public retention period was verified for a released Southern Regional record or photograph. WVDCR policy explains that closure removes a person from active rosters and counts without erasing time served or owed. Preserve the event through a focused record request and the court case rather than relying on a transient online view.
When requesting a list rather than one person's file, define the Greenbrier connection. Southern Regional serves seven counties, so a broad request based only on the facility name can include unrelated cases. State whether the list should use the arresting agency, committing county, sentencing county, or Greenbrier court. Give the exact start and end of the requested period in Eastern time. Also ask the custodian to include the release type and receiving destination. Southern Regional Property Release
WVDCR Policy 457.02 requires the facility to document the return of personal property and funds. Identifying papers held by staff, including a Social Security card, birth certificate, driver license, or temporary DCR identification, are part of the release process. The policy also calls for weather-appropriate clothing.
Funds may be delivered by cash card or mailed if a card cannot be used. These steps can take place after legal authority is received and before the person leaves. No official Southern Regional release clock, weekend timetable, family waiting area, or exit door was verified. Call the facility for current logistics without assuming an exact gate time.
Note: A signed court order can precede property return, hold checks, record closing, and the actual Southern Regional exit timestamp.
Transportation After Southern Release
The jail is in Raleigh County, not Greenbrier County. WVDCR Policy 457.09 lets a person released from a jail unit make a local or long-distance call to family or friends to arrange a ride. That rule recognizes the practical distance between Southern Regional and the communities it serves.
Separate WVDCR provisions discuss bus or county-seat transportation for prison and community-corrections releases. They should not be promised for a routine regional-jail release. Confirm the unit, event type, and approved plan. A transfer also may involve agency transport rather than a family pickup, which is another reason the destination field belongs in the release request.

Federal Holds at Southern Regional
WVDCR reports that Southern Regional contractually houses some U.S. Marshals detainees. That does not turn every person at the jail into a federal prisoner. A federal writ, detention order, or transfer field must support the federal branch. The U.S. Marshals Service does not provide a broad public detainee or released-person roster.
Use the federal court docket for detention or release authority and the BOP locator after commitment. BOP results can show a past release date and “RELEASED” status, but those statements concern BOP custody only. If an immigration destination is recorded, use the ICE locator. Do not infer an ICE hold just because a name has left the regional-jail search.
